The journey of Hair Loss and SOLUTIONS I Recommend
As a hairstylist who works closely with women every day, I get a front-row seat to some of their most personal moments. Big transformations, confidence boosts, and sometimes, the emotional experience of hair loss.
Hair loss can show up for so many reasons: postpartum changes, menopause, stress, nutrition shifts, and yes, even the rapid weight changes some clients experience while using GLP-1 medications. And while every journey is different, one thing stays the same: it’s emotional, and it’s personal.
Postpartum Hair Loss: The “Nobody Warned Me About This” Phase
Postpartum shedding can feel shocking even when you know it’s coming. Clients sit in my chair worried something is wrong, when really it’s the body’s natural shedding cycle resetting after pregnancy hormones drop.
What I see most is fear:
“Will it grow back?”
“Am I doing something wrong?”
“Why does my hairline look so thin?”
My role is to offer any guidance I might have. One thing I often recommend during this stage is the Nutrafol Postpartum pack. It’s designed specifically for new moms and supports hair wellness during that transition season. It’s gentle, pregnancy/postpartum-conscious, and I’ve seen it help many clients feel more in control during that overwhelming phase.
Menopause & Perimenopause: Slow, Gradual Changes
For others, hair loss shows up gradually through perimenopause and menopause. Texture changes. Density shifts. Hair that once acted one way suddenly behaves differently.
What I hear is frustration:
“My hair just isn’t the same anymore.”
“I feel like I’m losing a part of myself.”
For this chapter, I frequently recommend the Nutrafol Women’s Balance pack. It’s made for hormonal shifts and can support hair strength and overall health as the body transitions.
GLP-1 Use & Rapid Weight Changes: A New Chapter I’m Seeing More Often
As more women use GLP-1 medications for specifically weight loss and no other health issue, I’ve noticed an increase in clients experiencing temporary thinning or shedding. It isn’t the medication itself as much as the quick body changes, nutrition shifts, and stress on the system that sometimes affect the hair cycle.
What I witness most is insecurity:
“I finally feel good in my body, but now my hair is falling out.”
“It’s like I traded one insecurity for another.”
My job isn’t to diagnose, it’s to support, comfort, and help them feel like themselves while their hair adjusts. It is important to notice the changes in oneself and get to the root cause.
What These Journeys Have Taught Me as a Stylist
Seeing so many different forms of hair loss has changed the way I approach my work. I’ve learned:
Hair loss rarely has just one cause.
Empathy comes before education. I want to make clients feel heard before they want a plan.
Small wins matter. A softer part line, a healthy scalp routine, or a low-stress style can make someone feel human again.
A lot of hair grows back with time, nourishment, and care. Especially if the shedding is caught early.
Confidence can exist even in the middle of shedding, it just needs support.
My Chair Is a Safe Place
No matter the reason, I want my clients to know that you’re not alone. I see you. I hear you. And I’m here to help you through every season of your hair, not just the perfect ones. I’m with you every step of the way as I have gone through it myself with compassion, solutions when possible, and a judgment-free space to talk about what you're experiencing.
